Mountain West Conference Announces Women's Tennis All-Conference Team San Diego State's Tornier named Player of the Year.
April 24, 2002 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - All-conference honors for the 2002 season were announced tonight at the Mountain West Conference Women's Tennis Championship banquet in Provo, Utah. San Diego State junior Silvia Tornier was named Mountain West Coference Player of the Year, while UNLV's Gyorgyi Zsiros earned Freshman of the Year honors. The 2002 MWC Coach of the Year award will be announced at the conclusion of the 2002 MWC Women's Tennis Championships on Saturday, April 27. Following is the complete list of the 12-member singles team and the six doubles teams as selected by the MWC head coaches. PLAYER OF THE YEAR - Tornier, No. 72 in the nation, has a 23-6 overall record on the season (16-6 in dual matches) and was 5-1 in MWC play, all at the No. 1 position. The Hamburg, Germany, native, also teamed with Indra Erichsen to finish MWC doubles play undefeated (5-0). FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR - Zsiros, a product of Budapest, Hungary, is ranked No. 94 in the nation with an overall record of 26-7 (18-1 in dual matches).
