CSU's Vasos Claims Final McLeodUSA Mtn. West Women's Tennis Player of the Week Sophomore wins three singles and two doubles matches as CSU wins three in a row. (4/24)

Colorado Springs, Colo. Colorado State sophomore Bobbe Vasos is the final McLeodUSA Mountain West Conference Women¹s Tennis Player of the Week. Because the conference championship tournament will be played this week this is the final player of the week award even though the final regular-season match between Wyoming and UNLV will be played on Apr. 25. Vasos claimed three singles and two doubles victories in helping Colorado State post three team wins during the final week, including two over conference opponents. The Rams defeated Air Force, 7-2, on April 15, Northern Colorado, 8-1, on the 20th and Wyoming, 7-2, on the 21st. CSU finishes the regular season with a 10-9 overall record and went 2-1 against teams from the Mtn. West. Playing in the No. 5 singles position, the sophomore from Fort Collins, Colo., used a third-set tiebreaker to rally for a 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 win over Ashley Gee from Air Force. She then posted straight-set wins over Northern Colorado¹s Tammy Castaneda (6-1, 6-3) and Wyoming¹s Angela Dossetor (7-5, 6-3). In doubles play, Vasos teamed with Amanda Bartz for a 2-1 record. Playing in the No. 1 slot against Air Force, the duo suffered an 8-4 loss to Weiss/O¹Bryant. The tandem then moved to the No. 2 position and posted an 8-2 win over Eslinger/Castanda of UNC. Vasos¹ week was capped by a tie-break win, 9-8 (3), over Wyoming¹s team of Kay/Espinosa in the No. 2 slot. Vasos improved to 16-3 in duals, including a 12-1 mark in the No. 5 slot. She is 21-9 overall in singles this season. Vasos stands 11-2 in the No. 2 doubles slot when teamed with partner Amanda Bartz. The pair stands 12-7 in duals and is 14-8 overall. This is the first player of the week award of the season for the Rams and the first for Vasos.
