THIS WEEK: The women's tennis team will be traveling to Provo, Utah to compete in the Mountain West Conference Tournament. With the fifth seeding in the MWC, the Utes will take on fourth seeded and No. 43 ranked BYU. The Utes were defeated by the Cougars (9-12, 4-3 MWC) earlier this season, 5-2. The match will be played at the BYU Tennis Complex, Apr. 25, at 2:00 p.m.

THE UTES: Last week, the Utes were etched out by No. 47 ranked Boise State, 6-1. This defeat ended Utah's 2001-2002 regular season. In singles action, senior Irini Kotoglou was the only Utes to prevail against the Broncos. Kotoglou defeated Erin Polowski, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6. Freshman Ellen Svensson was knocked out by Renate Stoop at the No. 1 spot, 6-1, 6-1 and Sheri Esrock was notched by Helen Lawson, 6-2, 6-4.

In doubles action, Ronnberg and Esrock beat out Alissa Ayling and Anna Curlolo in the Utes only doubles victory, 9-7. Kotoglou and Hansen were defeated by Lawson and Stoop, 8-3 and Kasteler and Svensson were dowsed by Polowski and Hayward, 8-2.

QUOTING TSUMAS: "We feel we have a good chance at winning this match," says Tsumas. "I feel we match up very well against BYU. We had a good chance at beating them earlier this year, but we just couldn't finish our leads."
