BYU Crowned MWC Regular-Season Women's Tennis Champions

Cougars post perfect 7-0 record in conference play.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU earns the regular season women's tennis title after posting a perfect 7-0 record in conference play.

The No. 30th-ranked Cougars were undefeated against Mountain West Conference opponents, giving them the outright title. This marks the first year a regular-season champion was named in women's tennis after the league adopted a regular-season conference schedule. The Cougars are seeded first going into the Mountain West Conference Women's Tennis Championship in Ft. Collins, Colo., April 26-28. The Cougars compiled a 12-8 overall record this season.

San Diego State finished second in the conference, going 6-1 in conference play, to earn a No. 2 seed in the tournament. UNLV went 5-2 to earn a third place finish, New Mexico, at 4-3, claimed fourth-place and Utah, at 3-4, placed fifth in the regular season. Colorado State (2-5), Air Force (1-6) and Wyoming (0-7) rounded out the field to finish sixth, seventh and eighth in the conference, respectively. Each team goes into the conference tournament seeded the same as their conference finish.

Colorado State University will host the 2001 Mountain West Conference Women's Tennis Championship.
