COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State senior Katja Karrento has been named Mountain West Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week. This is Karrento's first ever player of the week honor.

Karrento, a Mariehamn, Finland, native, went 2-0 in singles and doubles over the weekend, helping No. 31 San Diego State to a 2-0 record in conference play. She defeated No. 56 BYU's Rebecca Pike in straight sets (7-6, 7-6) at No. 4 singles, giving the Aztecs the 4-3 win. Karrento also partnered with Lindsey Hedberg to beat Nicole Schneider and Hadley Macfarlane at No. 2 doubles, 8-6. Against Utah, she beat Rachel Alder, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 4 spot and teamed with Hedberg to beat Cassie Kasteler and Hillary Doyle at No. 2 doubles, 8-2. Karrento is now 11-14 overall (9-11 dual) in singles competition and 18-8 overall (16-5 dual) in doubles play.
