COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -¬ San Diego State's Dontia Haynes and Emily Kirchem of Colorado State have been selected the Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week, respectively.

Haynes, a senior from Bellflower, Calif., helped lead the Aztecs to four wins last week, including three victories over ranked teams. San Diego State defeated Utah (No. 57), BYU (No. 58) and UNLV (No. 40) in Mountain West Conference play, as well as a victory over UC Santa Barbara. The Aztecs were unranked last week but are now ranked No. 41. Haynes won all three of his singles matches and two of his four doubles matches for SDSU. At No. 5 singles, he rallied from a set down to defeat Jonathan Sanchez of BYU, 3-6, 6-0, 7-6 (3), and also defeated Utah (at No. 4 singles) and UNLV (No. 5 singles) in straight sets. The singles wins over BYU and UNLV clinched the two team victories for the Aztecs. With partner Daniel Jung, the duo defeated their Utah and UNLV opponents at No. 2 doubles.

Kirchem, a sophomore from Fairview, Ore., led Colorado State to two victories last week in three matches. The Rams defeated Wyoming in a thriller, 4-3, and also beat Air Force, while falling to No. 37 New Mexico. Moving up to No. 1 singles due to an injury to No. 1 player Dasha Zhurin, Kirchem won all three of her singles matches and two out of three doubles matches, including a three-set decision over then-No. 61 Maja Kovacek, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (7), of New Mexico. Kirchem also saved six match points to defeat Kat Bushey of Air Force, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (6). She teamed with Anne Anderson to win two doubles matches.
