COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV sophomore Tracie Chong has been named Mountain West Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week. This is Chong's second player of the week honor of the season and of her career.
Chong went 3-0 in singles and 2-1 in doubles over the weekend, helping No. 22 UNLV to a 3-0 record in conference play. She defeated No. 32 San Diego State's Katja Karrento in three sets (2-6, 6-3, 6-3) at No. 4 singles to earn the deciding point in the Rebels 4-3 win over the Aztecs, giving UNLV sole possession of first place in the conference standings. Against Wyoming, Chong moved up to the No. 2 position and defeated Yuliani Santi in straight sets (6-1, 7-5), and teamed with Cindy Treber to beat Kati Gyulai and Patricia Chien at No. 1 doubles, 8-3. In her final singles match of the week, Chong was victorious over Colorado State's Alexandra Paganetti at No. 3 singles (6-2, 6-1). She also teamed with Treber at No. 2 doubles to beat Carla Pallares and Tatyana Ugorich, 8-2. Chong's singles record now stands at 23-8 overall (13-4 dual) on the season.
