San Diego State's Tornier Named MWC Women's Tennis Player of the Week Junior garners honor for the first time this season.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State junior Silvia Tornier has been named Mountain West Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week. Tornier defeated two ranked players in singles competition and also had a doubles win last week as the Aztecs brought home two victories over ranked opponents. In SDSU's win over No. 18 Notre Dame, the Hamburg, Germany, native defeated No. 63 Becky Varnum in No. 1 singles, 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (6). Against No. 41 Kansas State, Tornier cruised by No. 111 Alena Jecminkova in straight sets (6-3, 6-1) and teamed with Indra Erichsen to shutout Kathy Chuda and Petra Sedlmajerova in No. 2 doubles, 8-0. San Diego State is currently ranked No. 39 in the nation and has a record of 7-5 for the spring season.
