Women's Tennis Release New Mexico's Kovacek named Women's Tennis Player of the Week

New Mexico freshman Maja Kovacek has been named Mountain West Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week after posting a 2-0 record in singles competition and, along with Tjasa Suvak, going 1-1 in doubles play last week. This is her first career player of the week honor.
Kovacek, a Pula, Croatia, product, started the week with a straight set upset victory over No. 57 Boise State's Renate Stoop (No. 73 in the nation), 6-3, 7-6, at No. 1 singles and partnered with Tjasa Suvak to beat Jemima Hayward and Erin Polowski, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles. Against No. 43 Washington State, she was victorious over Orsolya Sallai (6-4, 3-6, 6-2) at the No. 1 spot. On the season, Kovacek is 14-2 (3-1 dual) in singles competition and 9-4 (2-2 dual) in doubles play.
