COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico's Max Jones and UNLV's Elena Gantcheva have been named the Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week, respectively.

Jones, ranked No. 35 nationally, upset No. 19 Clancy Shields of Boise State in the Lobos' lone match over the weekend. After dropping the first set, the senior battled back to win the match (4-6, 6-4, 6-3) at the No. 2 position. Jones, a Chicester, West Sussex, native, also won at the No. 1 doubles slot, partnering with senior Kamil Pajkowski to capture an 8-3 win over BSU's Piotr Diaj and Luke Shields. Jones and Pajkowski are currently ranked at No. 48 doubles nationally.

Gantcheva, a native of Sofia, Bulgaria, did not lose a set in the opening weekend of dual action for the Lady Rebels, who picked up wins over Pacific, New Mexico State and Weber State. Ranked 30th nationally, Gantcheva defeated UOP's Jolanta Twarowska (6-2, 6-0), NMSU's Sophia Marks (6-4, 6-1) and WSU's Gabriela Vendito (6-2, 6-3), all at the No. 1 position. She also went 3-0 in doubles action at the No. 1 slot with sophomore Kristina Nedeltcheva, defeating UOP's Twarowska/Olga Gumenyuk (8-1), NMSU's Marks/Aleksa Costa (8-3) and WSU's Vendito/Ashley Schapper (8-1).
