COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico freshman Iva Gersic has been named Mountain West Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week after helping the No. 52 Lobos defeat 74th-ranked Northern Arizona.

Gersic, a Koprivnka, Croatia, product, teamed with Maria Ruiz-Fabrega to beat Julie Schmandt and Susan McClelland at No. 2 doubles, 8-3. She followed with a straight set victory over Kristina Klokinis (6-1, 6-2) at No. 1 spot in singles play. Gersic, No. 82 in the nation, is now 11-2 in singles play on the season and, with Ruiz-Fabrega, sits at 13-1 in doubles play.
