Mountain West Announces Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week

San Diego State's Javier Pulgar and UNLV's Aleksandra Josifoska earn the awards

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

San Diego State’s Javier Pulgar has been named the Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week, while UNLV’s Aleksandra Josifoska has been selected as the MW Women's Tennis Player of the Week.

Pulgar, hailing from Madrid, Spain, went a combined 3-1 last Sunday as the Aztecs picked up victories over No. 47 Cal Poly (W, 5-2) and UC Riverside (W, 7-0). In SDSU’s first match of the day against the Mustangs, Pulgar tallied a 6-2, 6-2 win over Brian McPhee at the No. 1 singles position. He returned to the court later in the day against the Highlanders, adding two more victories to his record. After teaming with Hunter Nicholas to knock off the tandem of Austin Andres and Felix Macherez, 8-1, at the top of the doubles lineup, Pulgar went on to post a 6-0, 6-3 win Macherez at the No. 1 singles spot.

A product of Skopje, Macedonia, Josifoska went a combined 6-0 last weekend as the 36th-ranked Rebels picked up victories over New Mexico State (W, 6-1), Pacific (W, 7-0) and Weber State (7-0). Josifoska, the 87th-ranked singles player in the country, only dropped one set en route to going 3-0 in singles action, while playing at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, respectively. She also recorded a perfect mark in doubles competition, pairing with Nives Pavlovic to tally three consecutive doubles wins at the top of the lineup.
