WACO, Texas - The No. 38 TCU women's tennis team fell by a score of 4-1 to No. 26 Texas A&M on Saturday in the opening round of the NCAA Regional in Waco, Texas. The loss put an end to the Horned Frogs season, dropping TCU to 17-11 overall, while improving the Aggies to 21-6 on the season.

"We finished the year fighting to the bitter end, and I'm very proud of our effort and our will to compete," said TCU head coach Jefferson Hammond. "I thought A&M played a tough match. They had the momentum after getting the crucial doubles point.

"Even though we were down 3-1, Nina (Munch-Soegaard) and Kewa (Nichols) looked like they were in control in their matches, and the match was closer than the final score."

The Texas A&M duo of Anna Blagodarova and Michelle Sammons led off doubles play with an 8-5 defeat of TCU's Karine Ionesco and Andrea Morgado at the No. 3 position.

Trailing 7-2, the Frog duo of Nina Munch-Soegaard and Kewa Nichols won two consecutive matches, but couldn't get any closer, falling 8-4 at the No. 2 slot.

The No. 4 tandem of Ana Cetnik and Anna Sydorska were back in action together for the first time since April 7, and were leading 6-5 when Texas A&M clinched the doubles point.

The Aggies took a 2-0 lead when Marisa Druss defeated Ionesco, 6-2, 6-2. No. 57 Ana Cetnik answered with a 6-3, 6-1 defeat of Texas A&M's Elze Potgieter to put the match at 2-1.

Texas A&M's Mechem followed with a 6-1, 6-2 defeat of Morgado at the No. 5 position, putting the Aggies up 3-1, forcing TCU to win the final three matches.

No. 84 Anna Sydorska fell 7-6(3), 6-2 to Sarah Foster at the No. 2 slot, clinching the match for Texas A&M.

No. 114 Munch-Soegaard was leading the No. 25 player in the nation, Lubinsky, in the third set, while Nichols was also up on Blagodarova in the third frame.

Cetnik and Sydorska will head to Athens, Ga., on May 23 to take part in the NCAA Division I Individual Championships.
