Second-Seeded Utah Advances to the 2011 Mountain West Women's Tennis Championship Final
April 29, 2011 FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The second-seeded and 55th-ranked Utah women's tennis team advanced to the championship match of the 2011 Mountain West Women's Tennis Championship with a 4-0 win over sixth-seeded Wyoming on Friday. The Utes will face the winner of No. 1 seed UNLV and No. 4 TCU on Saturday, April 29 at 10 a.m. MT at the University Tennis Complex on the campus of Colorado State in Fort Collins, Colo. Utah jumped out to a 1-0 advantage after winning the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. After the Utes' tandem of Lucia Kovarcikova and Sarah Pham downed Carly Van Hollen and Veronica Popovici, 8-4, at No. 3 and the Wyoming duo of Rebecca Berger and Alexandra Kovacs defeated Evgenia Kryuchkova and Lexi Provancha, 8-3, at No. 2, the doubles point came down to the top of the lineup. Anastasia Putilina and Paige Miles gave Utah the 1-0 advantage with a 9-7 victory at the No. 1 position. Following a 90-minute delay between doubles and singles competition, Utah claimed three more points to secure the match. Kryuchkova earned the second point for the Utes at No. 2 singles by defeating Alexandra Kovacs, 6-0, 6-1, while Miles captured the third point following a 7-5, 6-2 win over Rebecca Berg at the fifth position. Pham secured the dual for the Utes with a 7-6 (7), 6-4 win over Simona Synkova at the No. 3 singles spot.
