BYU And San Diego State Advance To Semifinals Of Mountain West Conference Women's Tennis Championship BYU posted a shutout over Air Force while San Diego State defeated Utah, 4-1.
April 28, 2005 SAN DIEGO, Calif. - No. 1 seed and No. 23-ranked BYU posted a shutout over No. 8 seed Air Force, 5-0, while No. 4 seed and No. 46-ranked San Diego State defeated No. 5 seed Utah, 4-1, in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Conference Women's Tennis Championship, Thursday at the Barnes Tennis Center. In its win over Air Force, BYU earned the doubles point with identical 8-1 victories at No. 2 and 3 doubles. The Cougars then came out in singles play with wins at No. 1, 3, 4 and 6 singles. No. 112-ranked Lauren Jones defeated Kat Bushey at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-2, while Rebecca Pike defeated Erika Shortridge at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-0. BYU dropped just 13 games in its four singles wins. In the fourth women's match of the day, San Diego State Eliska Krausova and Alesya Vidov clinched the doubles point for the Aztecs with a 9-8 win at No. 2 doubles. In singles play, SDSU earned wins at No. 2, 3 and 5 singles to post the victory. Nina Spaeth defeated Allison Hansen, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 5 singles for the Aztecs, while Dita Hauerlandova and Krausova also won for SDSU. Elizabeth Ferris earned the lone point for Utah at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-4.
