No. 4 TCU Defeats No. 5 BYU to Advance to the Semifinals of the 2011 MW Women's Tennis Championship
April 28, 2011 FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The fourth-seeded TCU women's tennis team secured four singles victories en route to a 4-1 win over fifth-seeded BYU Thursday afternoon at the University Tennis Complex in Fort Collins, Colo. After dropping the doubles point, the Horned Frogs took singles matches at the No. 1, 3, 5 and 6 positions to advance to the semifinal match. BYU won the doubles point as the tandem of Megan Price and Callie Craig defeated Katariina Tuohimaa, 8-1, at the No. 1 doubles position and the Cougars' Elizaveta Ezhova and Desiree Tran downed Federica Denti and Olivia Smith (8-4) at No. 2. TCU's Shalini Sahoo claimed the first singles victory of the match, recording a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Aubrey Paul at the No. 6 position to tie the score. The Horned Frogs jumped out to a 3-1 lead after Katariina Tuohimaa earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Megan Price at the top of the singles lineup and Idunn Hertzberg tallied a 6-2, 6-4 win over Ezhova at the No. 5 position. Gaby Mastromarino closed out the dual for TCU, netting a 6-3, 6-4 win over Elle Carney at the No. 3 spot.
