Top-Seeded UNLV Advances With 4-0 Win Over No. 9 Colorado State at 2011 Mountain West Women's Tennis Championship
April 28, 2011 FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Regular season champion UNLV beat No. 9 Colorado State, 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2011 Mountain West Women's Tennis Championship Thursday afternoon at the University Tennis Complex on the campus of Colorado State. The Rebels will face the winner of No. 4 TCU and No. 5 BYU in the tournament semifinals at 2 p.m. MT on Friday, April 29. The 38th-ranked Rebels quickly earned the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. After Nives Pavlovic and Aleksandra Josifoska notched an 8-1 victory over Tori Arneson and Caitlin Fluegge at the top of the lineup, the No. 2 doubles tandem of Lucia Batta and Anna Maskaljun beat Lauren Mulhern and Kaley Schultz, 8-3, to secure the point. Mulhern picked up UNLV's second point with a win over Pavlovic (6-1, 6-1) at No. 3 singles, while Maskaljun notched the team's third point with a two-set win over Veronika Wojakowska (6-1, 6-2) at the No. 2 position. The Rebels finished the match with a 6-0, 6-4 win by Batta, the MW Freshman of the Year award recipient, over Fluegge at the No. 1 singles position.
