New Mexico Defeats Colorado State for 3rd Place In MWC Women's Tennis Championships Lobos improve to 16-9 on the season.

Ft. Collins, Colo. - Fourth-seeded New Mexico knocked off sixth-seeded Colorado State, 4-1, to claim third-place in the 2001 Mountain West Conference Women's Tennis Championship. The Lobos finish with a 6-4 record against conference opponents. Colorado State carries a 3-7 record in the MWC.
New Mexico won the doubles point by winning two-of-three doubles matches. The Lobos then took three singles matches to Colorado State's one for the third-place victory. Colorado State's Catherine Sullivan saw her school record 16-match win streak come to an end as she fell to New Mexico's Nicoleta Spilca in the No. 5 spot, 7-5, 6-4.
New Mexico is currently ranked 45th in the nation and is 16-9 on the year. Colorado State closes out the tournament with a 13-12 overall record.
