UNLV Outlasts Utah For 5th-Place In MWC Women's Tennis Championships Paulina Janus leads the charge with a convincing win in the No. 1 singles spot.

Ft. Collins, Colo. - Third-seeded UNLV squeaked past fifth-seeded Utah, 4-3, to finish fifth in the 2001 MWC Women's Tennis Championship.
After a strong showing in doubles play, the 55th-ranked Rebels split three singles matches with Utah. With the doubles point won by UNLV, the Rebels were able to get past the Utes for fifth-place.
Rebel Paulina Janus had no trouble defeating Utah's Cassie Kasteler, 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 1 spot. The other singles matches came down to three game sets or tie-breakers. Janus went a perfect 3-0 in singles play during the tournament, as did Utah's Sheri Esrock in the No. 5 spot.
UNLV ends the tournament 7-3 in the MWC and 11-12 on the year. Utah finishes 4-6 in the MWC and 7-14 on the year.
