April 27, 2001
FT. COLLINS, Colo. - Seventh-seeded Air Force came close to handing third-seeded UNLV it's second upset of the 2001 MWC Women's Tennis Tournament. The Rebels were able to hang on by winning the contest, 4-3. The Rebels will play for fifth place in the tournament, while Air Force will compete for seventh place. The match began with the Rebels earning the doubles point. That point would prove to be crucial as both the Rebels and the Falcons each won three singles matches. UNLV improves to 6-3 in the MWC and 10-12 on the year. The Rebels face fifth-seeded Utah in the fifth-place match Friday at 9:00 a.m at the Edora Tennis Complex. Air Force will compete with eighth-seeded Wyoming for the seventh-place spot in the tournament. The Falcons are 1-8 in the MWC and 12-16 overall.
