BYU Defeats New Mexico In Second Round Of MWC Women's Tennis Championship Cougars to play for conference title on Saturday.

FT. COLLINS, Colo. - Top-seeded BYU pulled off a 4-1 victory over fourth-seeded New Mexico on the CSU tennis courts Friday. The Cougars will play in the championship match Saturday, while the Lobos will compete for the third-place spot. New Mexico fought hard in singles play (four of the six singles matches lasted almost two hours), but could not overtake BYU. New Mexico's Courtney Choate earned the lone victory for the Lobos, defeating BYU's Brooke Ferney in the No. 4 spot, 6-4, 6-3. The Cougars started the morning by winning the doubles point with victories in the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. Cougars Jodi Richardson, Lu Oswald and Lindsey Ferrell all picked up wins in their respective matches to advance BYU to the championship game. The Cougars are now a perfect 9-0 against conference opponents and 14-8 on the year. BYU will play the winner of the Colorado State/ San Diego State match Saturday at 1:00 p.m. on the CSU Tennis Courts. New Mexico falls to 5-4 in conference play and 15-9 on the year. The Lobos will play for third-place against the loser of the Colorado State/ San Diego State match Saturday at 9:00 a.m. on the CSU Tennis Courts.
