FT. COLLINS, Colo. - Second-seeded San Diego State swept the Air Force Academy, 4-0, during the first round of the 2001 Mountain West Conference Women's Tennis Championship at the Edora Tennis Courts Thursday afternoon.

The Aztecs doubles pairs of Silvia Tornier and Lindsey Hedberg and Katey Becker and Katja Karrento won the number one and three doubles matches, respectively, by identical scores of 8-2 to win the doubles point. The Aztecs then won the number one, four and six singles points for the sweep.

San Diego State improves to 16-7 overall, while the Falcons fall to 12-15. The Aztecs will face Colorado State, who upset the third-seeded Rebels of UNLV in the afternoon match at the CSU Tennis Complex. Air Force will play UNLV at Edora in the 2:00 p.m. match.
