FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The third-seeded and defending champion UNLV women's tennis team was stunned by sixth-seeded host Colorado State, 4-2, in the first round of the Mountain West Conference championships Thursday.

The Lady Rebels, ranked 55th, fell to 9-12 overall and 5-3 in the MWC while the unranked Rams improved to 12-11 and 3-5.

CSU began the day pulling out one team point by taking two of three doubles matches, including a deciding 9-7 victory at the second position.

In singles play, UNLV took both matches at the top of the lineup as Paulina Janus and Agnieszka Abram both won in straight sets. However, CSU controlled matches at courts 3-5 to clinch the victory. The match at No. 6 was halted.

The Lady Rebels, who are now fighting to finish in fifth place at the eight-team event, move into the losers' bracket and will face seventh-seeded Air Force on Friday. The Falcons lost 4-0 to second-seeded San Diego State.
