UNLV Defeats Colorado State in 2008 MWC Women's Tennis Tournament Lady Rebels advance to Friday's semifinal round against New Mexico
April 24, 2008 FORT WORTH, Texas - UNLV posted a 4-1 victory over Colorado State on Thursday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center to advance to the semifinals of the Mountain West Conference Championships. The Rebels improved to 15-8 overall with the win. UNLV posted victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions to open the match, 1-0. Sharon Marin and Alisa Razina began doubles play with an 8-2 victory over Colorado State's Kristen Stople and Sarah Seltsam, while the 37th-ranked Rebel duo of Elena Gantcheva and Kristina Nedeltcheva posted an 8-4 win over Lauren Strasburger and Hilary Tyler at the top spot to clinch the point. Nicole Dimitrova began the scoring for UNLV in singles action with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Strasburger at the No. 3 position. Gantcheva, ranked No. 34 nationally, followed with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Tyler at the top spot to put the Rebels up 3-0 in the contest. Laura Neal provided the only win for the Rams, downing Nedeltcheva at the No. 2 position by a score of 6-4, 6-2, before UNLV's Anna Maskaljun answered with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory over Anette Pohjalainen to clinch the match for the Rebels.
