SDSU Advances with 4-0 Win Over Utah in MWC Quarterfinals Aztecs will face New Mexico in Semifinal action tomorrow.

SAN DIEGO - Second-seeded and 23rd-ranked San Diego State defeated seventh-seeded Utah, 4-0, in the quarterfinal round of the 2003 Mountain West Conference Women's Tennis Championships on Thursday afternoon at the SDSU Courts. The Aztecs, which won for the 15th time in their last 17 outings, claimed the doubles point with victories at number one and three doubles. The duo of Indra Erichsen and Silvia Tornier, ranked 34th nationally, won 8-4 at number one while Patricia Graf and Katalina Romero won by an identical score at number three. San Diego State received victories from both of its ranked singles players. At number one, Tornier, ranked 85th nationally, posted a 6-0, 6-2 win over Ellen Svensson. Katja Karrento recorded a 6-1, 6-0 victory at number four over Rachel Alder to give SDSU a 3-0 lead. Lindsey Hedberg, ranked 95th nationally, clinched the match for the Aztecs with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Sheri Esrock at number two singles. San Diego State, 20-5 overall, will face New Mexico in the semifinal round on Friday. The Aztecs and Lobos will meet at 2 p.m. PDT at the SDSU Courts. Wyoming, 8-14 overall, will face Colorado State in the backdraw tomorrow at 10 a.m. PDT at the Barnes Tennis Center.
