Second-Seeded TCU Advances to Semifinals of Mountain West Conference Women's Tennis Championship
April 23, 2009 ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - 2009 MWC Tennis Championships Central TCU vs. Colorado State ScoresSecond-seeded TCU advanced to the semifinals of the Mountain West Conference Women's Tennis Championship with a 4-0 win over the No. 7 seed Colorado State Thursday morning at the Jerry Cline Tennis Center in Albuquerque, N.M. TCU improved to 14-10 on the season, while CSU finished the year with an 8-13 record. The Horned Frogs captured the doubles point with the No. 1 team of Anna Sydorska and Macall Harkins cruising to an 8-2 victory and the No. 2 team of Katariina Tuohimaa and Kayla Duncan rallying to beat the Rams' Greer Satherlie and Kirsten Stople, 8-6. Subbing for Nina Munch-Soegaard at the No. 1 spot, Harkins downed Laura Neal, 6-0, 6-1 to put the Horned Frogs up 2-0 early in singles play. The rest of the matches were closer, but TCU's Gaby Mastromarino broke through for a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Stople at the No. 5 spot and Tuohimaa followed immediately after with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Tori Arneson in the No. 2 position to clinch the match for the Horned Frogs. TCU will face the winner of the match between No. 3 San Diego State and No. 6 Utah Friday, April 24, at 10 a.m. MT.
