Colorado State University women’s softball coach Teri Klement recently earned offensive player of the tournament honors at the Canadian Cup, which was held earlier this month in Surrey, B.C.

Klement used her offensive talents to help the USA Blue team complete an impressive run, as she led the team in hitting with a .469 batting average and a .875 slugging percentage. Klement went 15-32 in the tournament and also led the team in runs scored (11) and RBI (10).

After participating in the softball Olympic Camp in San Diego, Calif. in April, Klement was invited to the Olympic Festival in Fresno in June, where she was selected to the USA Blue National team.

Klement made her presence felt throughout the Canadian tournament and was a thorn in the side of many opposing pitchers. Here’s a look at her performance.

Game 1: In the opening game of the tournament for the Blue team, Klement went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI to help USA easily top the White Rock Renegades, 7-0. Klement ended the game in the fifth inning with a single to center that scored two runs.

Game 2: Klement competed in one of her few hitless games in the second round against the Canadian Development team. Despite Klement going 0 for 2, USA Blue won 3-0.

Game 3: Klement went 1 for 2 against China the following day to help the Blue team to a 2-0 victory.

Game 4: The USA Blue recorded its second consecutive shutout the following day over the Illinois Hits, 4-0. Klement singled and scored one of the team’s four runs in the first inning.

Game 5: After falling behind 1-0 to the NJCAA All-Stars, Klement homered in the bottom of the first inning to start a barrage of nine unanswered runs for the Blue team. USA run-ruled NJCAA 9-1.

Game 6: Klement homered for the second straight game with solo shot in the first inning to help the Blue team edge Australia, 4-3. She finished the game with two hits and an RBI.

Game 7: The Blue team continued to roll behind Klement’s potent offensive ability with a 12-0 drubbing of the Phoenix Sunbirds. Klement had an RBI-single in the seven-run seventh inning. USA Blue had outscored the opposition 41-4 at that point in the tournament.

Game 8: In what was perhaps her most impressive showing of the tournament, Klement hit a three-run home run, scored twice and had two hits to help the Blue team open the tournament playoffs with a 6-1 win over Team Texas. Klement was named the Canada Cup All-Star team right fielder.

Game 9: In the second round of the playoffs, Klement was held hitless for only the second game of the tournament. Despite Klement going 0 for 3, the Blue team edged Japan, 1-0 and advanced to the winner’s bracket final.

Game 10: The Blue team suffered its only loss of the tournament 10-4 to the USA Gold team. Klement homered in the first inning to give the Blue team an early 2-0 lead and finished the game 3 for 4 with an RBI.
