FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado State Athletic Director Tim Weiser today announced that Teri Klement has been named head softball coach on a permanent basis.

She had served as the interim head coach last season after replacing Candi Letts, who left Colorado State to assume a head coaching position at Mississippi.

"Teri for many years has been a vital part of our softball program. She did an outstanding job this past year and we are looking forward to having Teri as our head coach for many years to come," said Weiser.

In her head coaching debut last season, Klement led the Rams to a 17-24 overall record. Klement, who had been an assistant under Letts for three seasons, was one of the best players to wear a Colorado State uniform. She is listed in nearly every offensive school record.

Klement, who played here from 1988-91, was a National Softball Coaches Association All-American Scholar Athlete, first-team all-region and was an all-conference selection all four years at Colorado State as a short stop.

At the conclusion of her senior season, she held records in career (.382) and season (.433) batting averages, runs (95), hits in a season (68) and career (210), career doubles (35), career triples (11), second-most home runs in a season (11), longest hitting streak (23 games), second-highest slugging percentage in a season (.611) and career (.557), RBIs in a game (6), a season (.43), and a career (121), career walks (48) and most games started (179).

Klement also still plays softball competitively. She spent the summer of 97 playing for the gold-medal-winning United States national team at the Pan American Qualifier in Columbia. She hit .548 during the tournament which was tops on the team and third among the national teams competing. Klement also played for the Gold-Medal winning U.S. team in the South Pacific Games in New Zealand in February of 1998.

After graduating from Colorado State she spent four years playing four seasons in Europe, helping her team win the European Championship in each of those years.

In 1992, Klement graduated from Colorado State with a degree in exercise and sport science.
