SALT LAKE CITY - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has named University of Utah second baseman Jackie Wong a second-team All-American.

The senior from Antioch, Calif., was named to the 2006 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America second team as she led the team, the conference and ranked among the tops in the nation in batting all season long. The leadoff hitter smacked the ball around at a .439 clip. She led the team with 90 hits, 18 of which were extra-base hits. Her batting average ranks 10th in the country.

Wong was also a threat on the bases as well. Her slugging percentage checks in at .595 while her on-base percentage is an eye-popping .487. She has swiped 22 bases in 26 chances.

While she has been an offensive force all season, she is also one of the premiere infielders. In over 230 chances on the season, Wong committed only one error and owns a .996 fielding percentage.

Wong is the 11th All-American in school annals. The last Ute All-American was Sunny Smith in 2000. She was a second-teamer as well.

Wong was one of four Mountain West Conference players named All-American. Ianeta Le'I (BYU) and Jessica Strickland (Colorado State) were both second-team honorees as well while SDSU's Erin Floros was a third-team designee.

Utah finished the season 40-21 and in third in the Mountain West Conference. The Utes won the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and made it to the regional final. They were eliminated from the NCAA's by eventual World Series participant, Texas.
