Trio Of Cougars Pick Up Regional Awards Ianeta Le`i selected to NFCA All-West Region First Team.
May 30, 2006 PROVO, Utah - A trio of BYU players grabbed postseason All-Region awards. Ianeta Le`i picked up National Fast Pitch Coaches Association (NFCA)/Louisville Slugger First Team All-West Region. Pitcher Summer Tobias also picked up NFCA/Louisville Slugger Second Team All-West Region honors while Jennifer Whiteley was named to ESPN: The Magazine's Regional All-Academic team. Le`i led the Cougars in nearly all offensive categories. She set single-season school records with 82 RBI, 15 doubles and 20 home runs while batting over .400 for the first time in her career. In her senior season, Le`i crushed career records in RBI, hits and doubles. Tobias also had a record-setting season from the pitchers circle. She led the Cougars with 25 wins while also maintaining the lowest ERA on the team. Tobias earned the decision in each of BYU's final 14 games. Whiteley earned academic honors for maintaining a 3.72 GPA in Math Education while leading BYU in triples in the 2006 season. Whiteley, who was also named to the Mountain West Conference All-Conference team, had her best season from the plate, posting a .316 average. NFCA will announce its Division I All-American team May 31 at noon
