SALT LAKE CITY-- Angie Jacobs resigned today as the head softball coach at the University of Utah. The resignation was accepted by Associate Athletics Director Mary Bowman, who will begin an immediate search for her replacement.

"This was a difficult season in many ways and I felt it was in my best interests - and in the best interests of the team - to move on and pursue something else," said Jacobs of her decision.

Utah concluded its only season under Jacobs this past weekend, finishing with a 25-26-1 overall record and a 5-14 mark in Mountain West Conference play. Jacobs, a Ute assistant from 1996-98, returned as the school's head coach last summer after eight years at the helm at Miami University in Ohio.

"We are very committed to our softball program and will seek out the best possible candidate to fill the position," said Bowman.
