SDSU Softball Prepares For First NCAA Appearance Since 2003
The San Diego State softball team will make the short drive north this weekend to compete in the NCAA regional on the campus of UCLA in Los Angeles, Calif. The Aztecs (32-13), who finished the MWC regular season with their highest conference winning percentage in school history (.833) and advanced to their fifth MWC championship game, earned the No. 2 seed and will face No. 3 Long Beach State (30-20) in the first game of the four-team, double-elimination tournament at 2:35 p.m. Friday. UCLA (43-7), winners of 10 NCAA championships, earned the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament and will host No. 4 Missouri State (40-15) in late game (5:05 p.m.)

The winner of the Los Angeles regional will advance to Super Regionals, where two teams will compete at eight sites in a best-of-three format. The eight winners will advance to the Womens's College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla.

SDSU received 11 points in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate national poll and are tied with Georgia Tech for 29th in the country.

The Aztecs are ranked No. 22 in the latest RPI ratings, behind Georgia Tech (19), Nebraska (20) and Louisville (21), and ahead of Baylor (23), Auburn (24) and Illinois State (25).
