Two Mountain West Conference Softball Players Earn Academic All-District Honors Utah's Wilkinson and UNLV's Ainslie Honored

Colorado Springs, Colo. The 2000 GTE Academic All-District VIII Women's Softball team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors (CoSIDA) was announced Thurs., May 11, with 11 female student-athlete's representing eight different NCAA Division I institutions were honored. First team selections include: Charelle Ainslie (DP/UNLV), Sarah Beeson (INF/Stanford), Meghan Cunningham (INF/Sacramento State), Kelly Hauxhurst (OF/Washington), Breanne Nickle (C/Utah State), Jennifer Price (OF/Saint Mary's College), Amanda Scott (P, Fresno State), Jennifer Spediacci (P, Washington), Sandy Taylor (INF/Utah State), Nicole Wilkinson (INF/Utah) and Becky Witt (OF/Fresno State). In order to be eligible for Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), must be a starter or an important reserve and be in at least their second season at their current school. These 11 student-athletes will now be on the national GTE/CoSIDA Softball Academic All-America ballot. A total of 31 eligible student-athletes were nominated by 13 different schools on the District VIII ballot. Members of CoSIDA in the states of California, Hawaii, Alaska, British Columbia, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada and Utah were responsible for voting on the squad.
