Third-Seeded Colorado State's Sixth Inning Rally Eliminates Utah From MWC Softball Championship, 3-2 The Rams (30-21) move on to play second-seed UNLV in game eight, tonight at 7 p.m.
May 13, 2005 SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Third-seeded Colorado State made a sixth-inning rally to top fourth-seeded Utah, 3-2, eliminating the Utes from the 2005 Mountain West Softball Championship in San Diego. The Rams (30-21) move on to play second-seed UNLV in game eight, tonight at 7 p.m. Utah ends it season at 21-29. The Utes struck first, pushing a run across the plate in the top of the first inning. Jackie Wong led off the game with a single, and after a sacrifice bunt moved her to second and Ivette Hernandez got a base hit, Devina Quintero laced an RBI single to left field, scoring Wong.
CSU came back in the bottom of the sixth, as the Rams used singles from Kerry Farrell and Jessica Strickland, then a two-RBI triple from Lauren Cusick and an RBI single by Julia Kloppe to take the lead 3-2. Strickland (12-9) picked up the win in relief for the Rams after entering the game in the third, allowing two hits in five innings of work, striking out one. Lindsie Nielsen (10-14) suffered the loss for Utah, allowing three runs on seven hits, striking out one and walking none.
