2001 All-Mountain West Conference Softball Team Announced Utah's Trevis named Player of the Year.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The All-Mountain West Conference Softball awards as selected by the league's six head coaches were announced today in conjunction with the start of the Mountain West Conference Softball Championship in Albuquerque, N.M. The championship begins tomorrow, Thursday, May 10, and runs through Saturday, May 12, at Lobo Field on the University of New Mexico campus. Utah had the MWC's Player of the Year for the second straight season in junior third baseman Lyndsey Trevis, while San Diego State senior Sandra Durazo captured Pitcher of the Year honors. Regular-season champion BYU claimed the conference Freshman of the Year in outfielder Oli Keohohou and Coach of the Year in Mary Kay Amicone. The Cougars, who are in their second season as a varsity program, were picked to finish fifth in the preseason coaches poll, but came through with an 11-6 conference record and finished the regular season 32-23 overall under Amicones' direction. Trevis, a product of Glendora High School in Glendora, Calif., leads the MWC with 69 hits and ranks second in batting average (.383), runs scored (50) and is third in RBI (55). In MWC contests, she has a league-high .435 batting average and a conference tying-high 20 runs scored. Trevis also ranks second in RBI (20), hits (28), total bases (44) and on base percentage (.514). Durazo, from Granada Hills, Calif. (John F. Kennedy HS), is 24-12 on the year and ranks second in the MWC with a 1.36 ERA. In MWC games, she posted a league-low 1.25 ERA and earned all 10 of the Aztecs conference victories this season. Durazo also captured MWC Pitcher of the Week honors five times this season. Keohohou, from Newbury Park, Calif. (Newbury Park HS), not only leads the MWC in batting at .466 and home runs per game at 0.37 (20 total) this season, but currently ranks second in the nation in both categories. Her 59 RBI also rank second in the league and eighth in the NCAA. In conference play, Keohohou batted .455 with six home runs and 14 RBI. The 20-member all-conference team includes six players from Utah, three from BYU, New Mexico, San Diego State and UNLV, and two from Colorado State.
