Provo, Utah - If there's one word that describes the BYU softball team this season, it's inconsistency.

So says coach Mary Kay Amicone, whose Cougars host this week's Mountain West Conference Tournament. The tournament opens Thursday and concludes Saturday, with the champion receiving an automatic NCAA Tournament bid.

BYU, the No. 5 seed, takes on No. 4 New Mexico Thursday at 2 p.m. Last weekend, the Lobos swept the Cougars in a doubleheader in Albuquerque.
