Moving Up The Softball Coaching Ladder The Wyoming Tribune-Eagle Feature Story
May 7, 2002
By David Worford FORT COLLINS, Colo. - For many, working virtually two full-time jobs, regularly hearing the alarm clock go off at 4 a.m. and hurrying back and forth between towns 50 miles apart wouldn't be much fun. But for Kim Lemmens, it is nothing but a chance for bigger and better things. That's because Lemmens is finishing up her first season as pitching coach for the Colorado State University softball team. And although she is specializing on the Rams' hurlers, Lemmens hopes to keep moving up the coaching ranks until one day she heads her own college program. It is not technically a full-time gig, but with the hours of practices, games and travel time, it might as well be. She has to juggle that with her position as staff sergeant and budget analyst at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne. "I think this is a stepping stone," said Lemmens, 36. "This is a great opportunity for me. I couldn't have been at a better place at a better time with the right situation to step into. It was lucky for me to have (CSU) coach (Mary) Yori to take the chance."
