Player and Pitcher of the Week CSU's Walker and Masser take home conference honors.
May 6, 2003 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado State junior first baseman Ricki Walker and junior righthander Megan Masser have been named Mountain West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. This is the second weekly honor of the season for both recipients. Walker went 7-for-17 (.412) at the plate in six games last week, helping the Rams to a 5-1 record. She hit four home runs, a double, drove in 10 runs and scored times. In game two against New Mexico, she smashed a first-inning homer to get the scoring started for the Rams. She added a double, four RBI and three runs as CSU beat the Lobos, 8-2. In the Rams 7-1 game one victory over UNLV, Walker went 2-for-4 from the plate, with two more home runs and three RBI. She followed with a 2-for-3 performance in game two against the Rebels. She belted her fourth home run of the week, drove in two more runs and scored once, as the Rams pulled out a 4-2 win. Walker is batting .366 on the year, with eight home runs and 40 RBI. Masser compiled a 3-0 record (two complete game shutouts) and a save in six appearances for the Rams last week. She gave up only one earned run, five walks and 13 hits, while striking out 23 in 28.0 innings of work. Masser's first complete game shutout came against New Mexico in game one of their series. She fanned seven Lobos, while scattering two hits and giving up one walk in CSU's 4-0 win. She followed that performance with a three-hit, two strikeout complete game victory over first-place San Diego State in game one of their doubleheader. In the Rams 7-1 game one win over UNLV, Masser collected her third complete game win of the week, striking out nine and giving up one earned run on four hits. In game two against UNLV, she came on in relief to collect her seventh save of the season, preserving Colorado State's 3-0 win. On the season, Masser is 17-5 with a 1.53 ERA and 132 strikeouts. Her seven saves on the year is a new MWC single-season record and ranks seventh in the nation as of Apr. 27.
