MWC Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week (5/01/01) BYU's Keohohou and Colorado State's Kiester take home conference honors.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU right fielder Oli Keohohou and Colorado State right-handed pitcher Kyla Kiester are the Mountain West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. This is the second player of the week honor for Keohohou this season as well as the second pitcher of the week award for Kiester. Keohohou, a freshman from Newbury Park, Calif. (Newbury Park HS), hit .571 (4-for-7) with two RBI, five runs scored, two home runs and was walked seven times in four games last week. The Cougars split with San Diego State (1-3, 4-0) and swept UNLV (7-1, 10-2) to remain one game back of Utah heading into the final week of the regular season. Keohohou went 1-for-3 with a home run in the loss to the Aztecs. In game two vs. San Diego State, she went 0-for-1, but was walked twice and scored a run. Keohohou was perfect from the plate (3-for-3) in the two-game series vs. UNLV and drew five walks. In the first contest, she went 2-for-2 with a home run and two runs scored, while reaching base safely in her only at bat in game two.
Kiester, a senior from Des Moines, Iowa (Johnston HS), recorded a victory and a save in two appearances last week vs. New Mexico. In the 3-0 win over the Lobos, she pitched her 15th complete game of the year and collected her third shutout of the season, scattering seven hits, walking five and striking out two. Kiester notched her fourth career save in the Rams 4-2 victory over New Mexico in the second game of the doubleheader. Kiester faced eight batters after entering the game in the sixth inning and allowed just two hits.
