COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU sophomore Ianeta Le`i and San Diego State sophomore righthander Celena Velasquez have been named Mountain West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

Le`i, an Oahu, Hawaii, native, led the Cougars to a 4-1 record last week, batting .500 (9-for-18) from the plate, with 10 RBI, nine runs scored, two home runs, a double and a triple. In the BYU doubleheader sweep of Utah Valley State, she went 3-for-6 from the plate, with an RBI and four runs scored. Le`i went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in the Cougars 8-0 upset win against No. 23 Pacific, and concluded her weekend with a 5-for-9 performance in a series split with conference rival Utah. In BYU's 13-0 game two victory over the Utes, Le`i turned in a 4-for-4, two home run, three runs scored performance. She also knocked in seven runs, which tied a two-year old MWC record for most RBI in a game. On the season, Le`i is batting .368, with six home runs and 30 RBI.

Velasquez, from Tucson, Ariz., went 1-0 with a save in two relief appearances for SDSU last weekend. In 7.2 innings, she struck out six and gave up no earned runs, while only giving up four hits and one walk. In game one against New Mexico, Velasquez entered with one out in the second inning and two Lobos on base. She struck out the next two batters to get out of the inning and scattered four hits over the next five innings as the Aztecs pulled out a 7-4 come-form-behind win. In the opening game of the Colorado State series, Velasquez relieved Cori Janelli in the sixth inning with SDSU holding on to a 2-1 lead. She retired the next six batters to complete the game and earn the save. Velasquez is now 12-4 on the year, with a league-leading 1.28 ERA and 75 strikeouts in 30 appearances.
