COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV freshman outfielder Marissa Nichols and senior righthander Jacque Kerrigan have been named Mountain West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. This is Nichols' sixth player of the week honor of the season and her career, while Kerrigan earns her eighth career pitcher of the week award (fourth this season).

Nichols, from Diamond Bar, Calif., helped the Rebels remain one game back of league-leading BYU in the MWC standings with a 3-1 record last week in conference play, including a 5-0 game one win over the Cougars. She started the week with a 1-for-3, one RBI, two runs scored performance in game one at Utah. Nichols led the game off with a solo home run to center, putting the Rebels up 1-0 on the way to a 6-2 win. She followed with a 2-for-4, four RBI, two runs scored effort in game two vs. the Utes, smashing a three-run homer in the top of the sixth inning to break the scoreless game open as the Rebels went on to a 7-1 victory. In UNLV's 5-0 opening game win over BYU, Nichols again went 2-for-4, advancing runners that would eventually score in the next at bat with both hits and scoring a run of her own in the process. She ended her week going 1-for-3 in game two, extending her UNLV single-season record in stolen bases to 27, with a steal in the fourth inning. Nichols also moved up the school single-season charts in home runs (15, tied for second), runs scored (54, second-place) and hits (75, sixth place).

Kerrigan went 2-0 in three appearances last week, including a complete game shutout of first-place BYU, the top scoring team in the MWC and No. 7 scoring team in the nation. She began the week with a complete game victory in the Rebels' 6-2 game one win over Utah. In seven innings on the mound, she struck out five, while giving up 10 hits and three walks. In game one vs. the Cougars, Kerrigan held one of the nation's top offenses to just three hits, while striking out four and not allowing a walk until the seventh inning. BYU's top-four hitters were held to a .166 batting average in the game, while allowing only two base runners passed second base the entire game. Kerrigan also appeared in a relief in game two vs. BYU, holding the Cougars hitless and scoreless in 2.0 innings. On the week, Kerrigan had an ERA of 0.88, while striking out 10 batters and giving up 13 hits in 16.0 innings of work.
