MWC NOTES
Last Week's Recap
San Diego State went 4-0 in conference play last week to tie BYU for first place in the standings. BYU split with Utah to earn a 7-3 conference record, while Utah's win over the Cougars was its first since 2006. Colorado State swept the series with UNLV, before losing two games to SDSU. The Rebels bounced back to take two games from New Mexico last weekend.

San Diego State continues to be ranked in the USA Today/NFCA poll at No. 19 in the ESPN.com/USA Collegiate Softball poll at No. 20 this week. BYU is also receiving votes in both polls.
BYU
The Cougars scored 22 runs against Utah Valley, a new school record, while senior Daniela Snow drove in eight runs to break another school record...Against Utah Valley, BYU hit a combined 10 home runs, including two grand slams...Sophomore Amanda Vance is riding a 13-game hitting streak, the longest of the season, while fellow sophomore Angeline Quiocho holds an 11-game hitting streak, tying her longest of the season...The Cougars' Thursday doubleheader against San Diego State will be broadcast live on The Mtn.
Colorado State
The Rams hold the second-best team batting average in the MWC with a .312 mark...Five Rams (Lauren Cusick, Caitlan Stem, Ashley Munoz, Julia Kloppe, Allison Majam) are currently batting over .300, with Cusick hitting better than .400...CSU currently boasts 12 players with at least one home run this season..The 12th player to hit a home run was junior Shannon Causgrove, who hit a pinch-hit, two-run home run against San Diego State Sunday...The Rams are now 5-3 in conference home openers under Head Coach Mary Yori...The Rams defeated UNLV 14-13, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to grab their fifth MWC home opener victory since 2001.
New Mexico
New Mexico softball hosts New Mexico State Tuesday in the Route 66 Casino Hotel Rio Grande Rivalry...The Lobos are hitting .270 as a team and have three hitters batting over .300...Senior Lindsey Elcess leads the team with a .377 average and nine home runs...Freshman Gabriella Parra has a .330 batting average and sophomore Sara Loeffelholz is hitting .315...Senior Kelly Ninemire is the ace of the pitching staff and is 13-12 overall with a 3.83 ERA...This weekend, UNM will travel to Fort Collins, Colo., to battle Colorado State...The Lobos defeated CSU twice in Albuquerque earlier this year and haven't played the Rams in Colorado since the 2006 season due to weather.
San Diego State
SDSU's Christina Ross gave up a walk in the sixth inning of game one against New Mexico on Friday, her first allowed in 39 innings...With 539 strikeouts in just three seasons, Ross trails only Sandra Durazo's (1998-01) 543 for most in school history...Ross is also just nine short of tying Velasquez's 2005 school-record season of 211 strikeouts...Megan McDonald homered three times in four games over the weekend and now has 16 career home runs, one short of Erryn Gutjahr career record of 17 set from 1996-99...SDSU is 34-3 when scoring just two or more runs this year.
UNLV
The Rebels had four players hit above the .300 mark this past week, with Ashli Holland hitting a staggering .619 with a seven-game hitting streak that saw her collect 13 hits, six runs and seven RBI...Holland had five multiple-hit games with a career-high three coming in game two at #1/#2 Arizona State...Jaci Hull hit .429 on the week with nine hits, seven runs and nine RBI...The Rebel batters scattered at least 10 hits in their last four games...The team collected a combined 51 hits in a doubleheader at CSU and a pair of games at New Mexico.
Utah
Utah earned its first win over BYU since 2006 with Saturday's 6-4 victory...Utah and BYU each earned 1.5 points of the Deseret First Dual rivalry series total with their respective victories...After the weekend's events, BYU leads 29.5-27...Ashley Smuda is on a three-game winning streak as a starting pitcher with an overall record of 14-9 on the season.
