Player and Pitcher of the Week BYU's Keohohou and Utah's Bowlin take home conference honors.
April 22, 2003 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU junior outfielder Oli Keohohou and Utah righthander Heather Bowlin have been named Mountain West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. This is the second weekly honor of the season for both recipients. Keohohou went 4-for-5 (.800) from the plate in three conference games last week. The Newbury Park, Calif., native, hit a home run, drove in two runs and scored four of her own. Against San Diego State, Keohohou started the game with a single to center and came around to score on a fielder's choice, giving the Cougars an early 1-0 lead. In game one against UNLV, she went 1-for-1 from the plate, with an RBI and two runs scored in the 3-2 Rebel win. In game two, Keohohou went 2-for-2 and belted her 18th homer of the season (second in the nation) in BYU's 14-0 victory. She currently ranks in the top-10 nationally in batting average (.461, 10th), home runs (18, second) and RBI (41, 10th), and also has a 1.127 slugging percentage.
Bowlin went 1-1 in two appearances for the Utes last week, giving up no earned runs, two walks and nine hits in 12.1 innings. She started the week with a strong five-inning outing against UNLV, scattering three hits and striking out three in the Utes' 9-0 win. In game two against San Diego State, she threw seven scoreless innings before the Aztecs scored the game-winning unearned run in the bottom of the eighth for a 1-0 win. Bowlin gave up six hits and struck out three, while walking one.
