April 21, 2003

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado State University today announced the signing of student-athlete Brittany Huerta to a National Letter of Intent (NLI). She will enroll at Colorado State in the fall of 2003.

Huerta is a senior at Atascadero High School in Atascadero, Calif., where she is a two-sport athlete. She joins the softball team at CSU after being named to the all-conference team in her junior year. Recently, she was named to the Best of the West All-Tournament team and is closing in on the end of her senior season. She also is a three-year varsity letterwinner on the Atascadero soccer team and is a four-year honor roll member.

Huerta splits time between shortstop and centerfield on both her high school and club teams. Her travel ball team is the Orange County Bat Busters which finished ninth at the 18-and-under Gold Nationals last summer.

"I'm very excited that Brittany is coming to Colorado State," said Rams head coach Mary Yori. "She is a very good student-athlete and will add depth to our middle infield. She is our first California signee, and I'm very excited about how much she can help our program."

Huerta joins three other signees from the fall signing period in Melissa Giesler, Stacey Leigh and Jessica Strickland.
