MWC Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week UNLV's Maggie Livreri and Jacque Kerrigan honored
April 19, 2005 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV junior catcher Maggie Livreri and senior righthander Jacque Kerrigan have been named Mountain West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. This is the first career weekly award for Livreri and the third time in 2005 and the seventh career accolade for Kerrigan. Livreri, a Las Vegas, Nev., native, batted .300 from the plate in four games for the Rebels last week, including two grand slams. She also knocked in eight RBI and scored two runs, while turning in a slugging percentage of .900 and an on-base percentage of .417. In UNLV's non-conference doubleheader vs. No. 18 Fresno State, Livreri went 2-for-5, smashing her first grand slam of the week in the third inning of the Rebels' 13-2 game two upset victory. She also drew two walks in the second game, adding to her team-best 23 on the season. In game two of UNLV's doubleheader sweep of San Diego State, Livreri provided all the offense the Rebels needed, drilling a fourth inning grand slam in a 4-0 win. Defensively, she was perfect from the catcher's position with 11 putouts and two assists. On the season, Livreri is batting .279 with five home runs (three grand slams) and 28 RBI. Kerrigan, a Eugene, Ore., product, posted a 3-1 record (three complete game wins) in four appearances for the Rebels last week, including a win at No. 18 Fresno State. In 25.0 innings on the mound, she struck out 11 batters, while giving up only one earned run (three total), 14 hits and three walks. In game two of UNLV's doubleheader vs. the 18th-ranked Bulldogs, Kerrigan gave up four hits and struck out two batters, while walking none as the Rebels defeated Fresno State, 13-2 in five innings. Kerrigan followed by throwing both games of the Rebels' conference doubleheader vs. San Diego State, picking up her fourth and fifth shutouts of the season in the process. In game one, she took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, finishing with a one-hitter and two strikeouts in UNLV's 2-0 win. In the second game, Kerrigan scattered six hits, while striking out three and walking none as UNLV defeated SDSU, 4-0. With her three wins on the week, Kerrigan moved into third-place on the all-time wins list at UNLV with 65. She is currently
21-13 on the year, with 154 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.70.
