COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU senior Ianeta Le'i and San Diego State senior Celena Velasquez were named the Mountain West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the week, respectively. It marked the second career honor for Le'i and 11th for Velasquez.

Le'i, a native of Oahu, Hawaii, set career highs with home runs in a season (14) and RBI in a season (55) with 16 games remaining. Le'i belted six home runs in six games, doubled twice and tallied an astonishing 19 RBI. She is now within five RBI of tying a school record for RBI in a season. In the Cougars first game against New Mexico, Le`i hit a bases clearing, three-run double and added a three-run homer. Against Colorado State, she nailed two home runs and five RBI while recording two intentional walks. Le`i's .550 batting average last week improved her overall average to .385. She also posted a slugging percentage of 1.550 and an on-base percentage of .625. Le'i is batting .516 in 10 MWC games.

Velasquez, hailing from Tucson, Ariz., went 2-0 with a 1.75 ERA as the Aztecs swept UNLV this past weekend. She struck out 10 batters in 8.0 innings and did not allow a walk. Velasquez also came in relief in the seventh inning of the first game with no outs and a runner on first, while allowing only one hit to get out of the inning. She earned the win when SDSU scored a run in the bottom half of the inning. Velasquez pitched a complete game in the nightcap and struck out a season-high 10 batters without issuing a walk.
