COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV shortstop Rachael Goodpaster and Colorado State right-handed pitcher Kyla Kiester are the Mountain West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. This is the second player of the week honor for Goodpaster this season and the first pitcher of the week award for Kiester.

Goodpaster, a senior from Fair Oaks, Calif. (Bella Vista HS), hit .643 (9-for-14) with three RBI, five runs scored, a home run, a double and five steals in four games last week. The Rebels split with both Colorado State (4-3, 2-5) and New Mexico (4-2, 9-10 in eight innings) in conference play. Goodpaster went 1-for-4 in the first game of the doubleheader vs. Colorado State, but connected on 3-of-4 chances at the plate in the second game, including the game-winning home run. She went 5-for-6 in the two-game series at New Mexico, with three runs scored, two RBI, and was a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen base attempts. In the 4-2 win over the Lobos, Goodpaster scored the insurance run as she stole home to give the Rebels a two-run advantage.

Kiester, a senior from Des Moines, Iowa (Johnston HS), went 3-1, all of which were complete games, and recorded a 1.69 ERA in four appearances last week. She also helped Colorado State end a 16-game skid and win its first back-to-back games of the season. In 29 innings of work, Kiester scattered 21 hits, gave up seven earned runs and struck out 11. In the 5-2 victory over UNLV, Kiester allowed eight hits and two earned runs in seven innings on the mound. In the two-game sweep of San Diego State (2-0, 5-2), she gave up just five hits, one earned run and three walks, while striking out six in 14 innings. Her best performance came in the 2-0 victory over the Aztecs when she allowed just one hit and a walk, while striking out four over seven innings.
