PROVO, Utah - BYU softball swept conference opponent Colorado State University in a double-header 6-5 and 4-3 Friday at Gail Miller Field. These wins took the Cougars to a 7-1 record in MWC play this season.

Colorado took the lead early in the first game as they scored three runs in the second inning. The Cougars held tight and stepped up in the sixth inning. Junior Summer Tobias pitched a perfect inning. With two outs in the six inning, Senior Debbie Dodds hit a homerun to left center and had a triple RBI.

"Debbie had a tough February and first half of March. Right now she's one of our hottest hitters," BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said. "That's what we've been waiting for."

The Cougars came out strong in the second game and scored three runs in the second inning. Daniella Urincho, Dodds and Jennifer Whiteley brought the score to 3-0 for the Cougars. However, the Rams came back in the fourth inning and scored two runs.

"We were very cautious not to fall flat in the second game," Eakin said.

Although the Cougars had three errors in the second game, Lauren, Watson-Perry scored another run in the fifth inning and brought the Cougars to a 4-2 lead over the Rams. The Rams came back in the seventh inning with another run, but the Cougars' defense held tight and stopped the Rams.

The Cougars will face another conference opponent at home tomorrow in a double-header against New Mexico at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
