COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah freshman utility player Devina Quintero and San Diego State senior third baseman Kelcy Murphy have been named Mountain West Conference Softball Co-Players of the Week, while San Diego State sophomore pitcher Celena Velasquez has been named Pitcher of the Week.

Murphy, a San Diego, Calif., product, helped SDSU to sweeps over conference opponents Colorado State and New Mexico last weekend, batting .455 (5-for-11) from the plate, with a home run, two doubles, five RBI and three runs scored. She started the weekend with a game-winning double in the Aztecs 2-1, eight inning victory over Colorado State. In a 3-2 win over New Mexico in the series opener, Murphy turned in a 2-for-3, three RBI performance, which included her fourth homer of the season. She capped off her weekend going 1-for-3, with an RBI and a run scored, as the Aztecs beat the Lobos, 8-2.

Quintero hit .643 (9-for-14) from the plate last week, helping the Utes to a 3-1 record. The Reseda, Calif., native, had a home run, three doubles and five RBI, while collecting multiple hits in all four games. Against Utah Valley State, Quintero went 2-for-3, driving in a run and scoring two runs of her own in the 8-5 Utah win, followed by a 2-for-4 performance against Southern Utah, helping the Utes to an 8-3 victory. In game one against in-state rival BYU, Quintero went 3-for-3 from the plate, with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. In Utah's 9-8 game two win over the Cougars, Quintero smashed a fourth inning double to left center to score two and put Utah up 8-5. She then put the game out of reach in the top of the seventh with a solo home run to left field. Defensively, Quintero was perfect from the field, turning in three assists with no errors from right field.

Velasquez, from Tucson, Ariz., came on in relief in all four of San Diego State's games last weekend, going 2-0 and earning her first two career saves. In 11.2 innings on the mound, she struck out six and gave up no earned runs, while scattering five hits and walking one. In game one against Colorado State, Velasquez came on in the sixth inning with the score knotted at one apiece to earn the victory in SDSU's 2-1, eight inning win. In game two against the Rams, she relieved Deanna Richards in the fifth inning and pitched two more scoreless innings to earn the save in the Aztecs 3-2 win. Velasquez earned her second straight save of the weekend against New Mexico, pitching three scoreless innings and striking out four in the process as San Diego State held on for a 3-2 victory. Velasquez concluded the weekend entering game two against the Lobos with two outs in the fourth and allowing one hit through the final 3.1 innings to tally her 11th win of the season.
