Last Time up at Bat - Colorado State (3-28, 0-5 MWC) softball lost both games of a double-header April 7, falling to New Mexico (30-15-1, 3-2-1 MWC) 2-1 and 11-0.

The Rams were tied with the Lobos 1-1 in the first game until the bottom of the seventh inning, then New Mexico scored on a double to grab the win. Sophomore Brooke Boyer (Huntington Beach, Calif.) led the Rams with one RBI and also had one hit after coming to the plate three times. Kyla Kiester (Sr., Des Moines, Iowa) pitched a complete game for Colorado State and gave up two runs, one earned, off four hits and walked three Lobos after facing 28 batters. Hayley Punter gave up only one run for the Lobos, which was not earned, off three hits and walked no Rams after facing 25 batters. Each team had two errors apiece.

In the second game, Colorado State hung close for five innings until the Lobos exploded with an eight run inning. Sophomores Amber Hecht (Plano, Tex.) and Katie Benton (Manhattan, Kan.) led the Rams with one hit each. Erin Murray (Fr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) pitched the first three innings for the Rams and gave up two runs, both earned, off four hits and walked five Lobos after facing 19 batters. Kiester relieved Murray in the middle of the third inning and gave up nine runs, none earned, off seven hits and walked three players after facing 18 batters. Amy Dumas pitched the complete six-inning game for New Mexico and did not give up any runs, had two hits off her and did not walk a single Ram after facing 19 batters. Colorado State had two errors in the second contest, while New Mexico walked away with none.

Head Coach Mary Yori was confident that her team could rebound from the losses.

"After losing the first game in such a close fashion," said Yori, "it was really hard to come back for the second. In the end, we just ran out of emotion."

The Rams return to action on Friday, April 13 when they will take on UNLV at Ram Field on the campus of Colorado State for a double-header.

History of Competition - The Rams won three of the four meetings against UNLV during last year, which was also the first season that these two schools met on the mound. On April 14, Colorado State travelled to Las Vegas to sweep away the competition in a double-header, 2-1 and 3-2. The next time the Rams faced-off against the Rebels in 2000 was on May 7 at Ram Field where the games were split, with Colorado State winning the first contest, 2-1 and UNLV winning the second, 5-2. Colorado State leads the all-time series, 3-1.

San Diego State defeated Colorado State in all four meetings during the 2000 season. On April 16, the Aztecs defeated the Rams in both games of the double-header, 3-2 and 8-7. When SDSU travelled to Ft. Collins, again they walked away with a double victory on May 5 with scores of 3-1 and 9-5. The second game went to ten innings, but the Rams could not pull off the defeat. The Rams lead the overall series with the Aztecs, 17-16.
